RDS – Rotary Dosing System

Intelligent lubrication of rotationally symmetrical products with the SOMA RDS: parameterizable, volumetric and contact-free.

Rotationally symmetrical components are essential components of many products and are therefore used in almost all industrial sectors. Common to many rotationally symmetrical applications is wear caused by friction, which can be significantly reduced by the targeted placement of suitable lubricants with a defined volume.

RDS features at a glance

  • Continuously adjustable, reproducibly constant metering volume
  • Angle-accurate, non-contact dispensing
  • Parameterizable number of dispensing pulses per dispensing sequence
  • ("On Hold" method) for targeted variation of the dispensing volume
  • Process reliability through integrated metering piston stroke sensing
  • Manual or automatic selection of seven (7) different, parameterizable metering sequences
  • Optional: valve heating with temperature controller to improve the dosing capability of viscous lubricants
  • Possibility of circumferential metering on the inner and outer diameter by means of specific metering needles

The SOMA pulse metering valve as the basis of the rotary metering system

The SOMA RDS rotary dosing system offers the highest degree of flexibility in fully automatic lubricant dosing for rotationally symmetrical products – parameterizable, volumetric and contactless.

Parameterization with RDS Control

With the help of parameterization software, RDS-Control, specially developed to meet the requirements of a rotary dosing system, the dosing sequences can be created in no time at all and loaded into the dosing control system. The sequences are selected and started by means of a selector switch or automatically by a higher-level control system.

For maximum flexibility, 16 different dispensing sequences can be created per dispensing sequence, which are visualized by RDS Control for monitoring. For each dispensing sequence, it is also possible to determine whether dispensing should take place during rotation, the "On The Fly" method, or whether it should be stopped beforehand, the "On Hold" method, for the highest accuracy requirements.

The RDS controller

All components required to operate the RDS, such as the stepper motor controller, the power supply, the optional heating controller and the digital interface to a higher-level plant control system, are arranged in a compact, industrial housing. The RDS controller is thus equally suitable for mounting in process cells or as a tabletop unit at semi-automatic workstations.

Technical data

  • Inlet pressure of the medium: Pmax = 15 bar
  • Compressed air supply: P = 3 - 6 bar
  • Power supply: 230V AC, 50 - 60 Hz
  • Dosing volume: V = 2 - 40 mm3 / dosing pulse
  • Dosing frequency: fmax = 20 Hz
  • Dimensions: 80 mm x 100 mm x 250 mm (W x H x D)

Based on the use of the proven SOMA impulse dosing valve IDV, the SOMA rotary dosing system (RDS) in combination with a dosing nozzle driven by means of a hollow shaft stepper motor allows the angularly accurate and contactless dosing of adjustable and constant lubricant volumes.
